Nine Army Jawans Die in Ladakh Accident in Gorge, Inquiry Ordered

Ladakh Accident – On Saturday (19 August 2023), India mourned the loss of nine soldiers. Sadly, the vehicle of the soldiers skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge in Ladakh and took their lives. The accident is a huge shock for the entire India and the family members of those soldiers. It occurred near Kiari around 6.30 pm, about 7 km short of Kyari town in the union territory of Ladakh.

The official claimed that the troops were moving from Karu garrison to Kyari which is near Leh. One soldier was injured critically and was taken to the hospital immediately. Reportedly, he is undergoing treatment at an Army hospital. P D Nitya, the Senior Superintendent of Police of Leh issues a statement and said that the driver of the vehicle lost control and it plunged into the gorge around 4.45 pm.

A team of police immediately approached the spot and helped in shifting all the jawans into an Army medical facility. There 8 personnel were declared dead. The other jawan later succumbed to his injuries, as reported by the Senior Superintendent of Police.

Army’s Response

The Indian Army expressed its deep condolences to the family of the martyred soldiers. They also assured to provide possible assistance to them. Not only this, but they also said that they have ordered a court of inquiry for the cause of the accident which led to the death of nine soldiers.
