Karan Sangwan – As everyone knows that Unacademy is one of the leading online education platforms. It has recently sparked controversy after terminating the contract of one of its teachers named Karan Sangwan. Reportedly, he was terminated based on Karan Sangwan’s appeal to students to vote for literate candidates in the upcoming elections.
Karan is a teacher of legal affairs and helps prepare students for judicial service examinations. The video of Karan suggesting his students vote for educated people has garnered a lot of attention and sparked controversy as well. Some claimed that the teacher started a political agenda and influenced the young kids. On the other hand, some alleged that Unacademy was peddling an anti-Modi narrative.
How did Unacademy react?

It issued a statement on its official page of X (formerly known as Twitter) and cleared that they have terminated Karan Sangwan because of a breach of the code of conduct. They added that the platform provides a safe and unbiased education and is not a place to share their personal reviews.
They said:-
We are an education platform that is deeply committed to imparting quality education. To do this we have in place a strict Code of Conduct for all our educators with the intention of ensuring that our learners have access to unbiased knowledge.
Our learners are at the center of everything we do. The classroom is not a place to share personal opinions and views as they can misguide and wrongly influence them. In the current situation, we were forced to part ways with Karan Sangwan as he was in breach of the Code of Conduct.”
How did Karan Sangwan Respond?
Karan Sangwan has said that he was unaware that his video was making rounds on the internet. It was taken out of context and portrayed in a wrong way. He also tried to contact the top management about this matter but he received no response from them as well.
Talking about Karan, he has 96k subscribers on his official YouTube channel where he shares several topics to help judicial students. He also gives coaching for other law exam preparation. He gives both online and offline training to the students so that they can crack the exam and secure their dream positions.
Arvind Kejriwal’s Statement
Several people showed their points of view on this matter. So, the famous Chief Minister of Delhi named Arvind Kejriwal also shared his views on the matter and said that the representative of the nation must be educated so that he/she can take good decisions for the nation. His statement is:-
Is it a crime to appeal to educated people to vote? If someone is illiterate, personally I respect him. But public representatives cannot be illiterate. This is the era of science and technology. Illiterate public representatives can never build the modern India of 21st century.”
The termination of Karan Sangwan by Unacademy has received a lot of backlash from students across India and other people. Many of the people are showing their support for the teacher as he was trying to help the students in taking good decisions in their lives. Some students have also said to boycott the platform and cancel their subscriptions to support the teacher.
Karan Sangwan is very humble and used to share the achievements of his students on his social media handles. Moreover, he has uploaded a video regarding this backlash on his YouTube channel but has not said much about the platform.
